Pig + Fig Donates Profits from Qupe Wine Dinner to Anita Salas Memorial Fund.

On Sunday, January 28th, The Pig + Fig Cafe hosted a wine dinner to raise money for the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. (Donate here).

The profits from the five course dinner with wine pairings from winemaker Bob Lindquist were donated to the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. This event was part of the 10th Annual K2 Pajarito Women’s Weekend organized by Amy Bauer.

Bauer and Susan Brockway Hahn raised additional funds for the organization by auctioning off a Tuscan gift basket, two paintings by local artist Tatiana Klimov, and a weekend getaway at a vacation rental in Santa Fe. Tom HiIl, the wine specialist for the evening, donated two valuable wines for the dinner.

In the first year, the K2 Women’s Weekend was inspired by Carolyn Hall Young, who passed away after battling cancer for several years and who worked with the Anita Salas Memorial Fund.

“Even though she had cancer, she never focused on dying. She always focused on living,” said Bauer. “She lived her life beautifully and was a blessing to know.”

The Women’s Weekend was also inspired by Lois and David Gardner. David noticed that there was a women’s spa event in Taos that raised money for cancer. He thought that Los Alamos could host an even better event, and that it should be run by a woman. Specifically, Amy Bauer.

Over the past ten years the K2 Women’s Weekend has raised over $83,000 for the Anita Salas Memorial Fund. When they first started to support them, they had an annual budget of $10,000. But now they have an annual budget of $75-100,000 a year.

“This growth was a direct result of the work that we’ve done,” said Bauer, “because once we started to support them other communities started to donate too.”

$0.95 per every dollar donated goes directly towards helping people in New Mexico who are battling cervical and breast cancer.

They still need your help.

Support the Anita Salas Memorial Fund at an upcoming Women’s Weekend Event at Bathtub Row Brewing Company

The Women’s Weekend usually takes place at the Pajarito Ski Hill, but since there hasn’t been enough snow this year they will have a party at the Bathtub Row Brewing Company on February 10th from 5:30 to 9:00. This event is open to the public. Admission is free, and they will raise money with silent auctions. There will be beer, food provided by Secret City Kitchen and music from the DJ Heather Coy and silent auctions.
